Decks

A pond isn't much fun without some nice place to view it from. With this in mind, our master plan included three new decks, which brings the yard complement to four total. This also stays perfectly in line with the other master plan, no lawn mowing!

Here's what we started out with in the back yard:

Yes, it's the urban jungle. Directly in front of you is a square (bordered by landscape timbers) of the most incredibly hardy ground cover I've ever seen. We literally cannot kill it. I think we're just going to end up digging it up. You can see the house in its original pale blue and white trim exterior.

A view standing on the glass-brick patio, looking out at the aforementioned ground cover square and the mimosa tree stump.

Another angle from the glass-brick patio.

One deck is the large main deck, 16x16, extending from the back of the house. The medium deck is a 12x12 that surrounds a tree stump which we will be using as our "eating deck" after we build a tabletop to go on top of the tree stump. The small 4x12 deck extends along the side of the existing shed.

All decks have been completed at this point, and stain has been applied. Still to complete are some final tweaks (boards that have warped a bit since we placed them) and a final coat of clear waterproofing.

All decks were built using Deck Blocks floating foundation. Read more about it here!
